Get ready to mark your calendars because Saturday, Sept. 17, is the 14th annual Mount Vernon Nazarene University music festival SonFest. From 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and with music styles ranging from rock, crunk, hardcore and indie to hip-hop and pop, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

This year’s main stage bands are Tenth Avenue North, Family Force 5, Decyfer Down, Jamie Grace, Sent by Ravens, Mike Mains and the Branches, and Wolves at the Gate. Other groups include Da MAC and local bands the Undeserving, the Sunroom Legend, the Lighthouse and the Whaler, The Homecoming and Stedic. Artists and schedule may change.

One of the largest events on campus during the fall, SonFest has two stages and multiple vendors. With the event being free for Mount Vernon students, you can save that cash for a CD or your favorite band’s T-shirt. There are also many activities and food vendors available during SonFest.

You have to submit a signed waiver before doing some of the activities, and if you are under 18, you must have a parent’s signature.

Have friends not going to Mount Vernon who also want to join in on the fun? According to Holli Bibler, the director of enrollment events, “Students may purchase tickets at the discount group rate of $13 before the day of the show.”

So you can save a few dollars instead of getting them at $15 for anyone buying off campus, or $20 per person at the gate. VIP tickets are available for $40 per person and include a festival laminate, T-shirt, prime seating, and artist meet and greet opportunities.

Parking is free and children under 4 will be admitted free of charge.

If you really like free stuff, you can also receive a free, one- of-a-kind T-shirt when you volunteer to help out at SonFest. You can set-up, cleanup, provide security or sell band merchandise. www.mvnu.edu/sonfest.

Watch for SGA announcements about having signups.
