One MVNU student and one alumnus are uninjured after two bombs detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15.

Jace Wolford, a junior at MVNU, and Nate Winters, a 2012 MVNU graduate, finished the marathon fewer than 15 minutes before the initial explosion.

According to reports, the blasts killed three people and injured over 100 more.  The Back Bay district of the city of Boston immediately locked down and the nation looked on as continual coverage aired over every major news network.

“As we were getting ready to leave, we were trying to find the train,” said Wolford. “We got on and while we were on the train is when it happened.”

Wolford and Winters estimate that they had been on the train for about five minutes when the first bomb went off.

“It’s pretty crazy,” Wolford said. “We are staying at ENC (Eastern Nazarene College), about a 30-minute drive from Boston, and we can still hear ambulances and stuff from here.”

Wolford and Winters count themselves fortunate and offer their prayers and support to all those affected.

“Pray for the victims,” Wolford said.  “It was definitely a blessing that we didn’t go back to the finish line because that was our plan originally. We were going to try to get to the T-train, which was down by the finish line, but we went to a different one, which was a block in the other direction.

After the two explosions at the finish line, one more was detonated in the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in downtown Boston. Investigators are still searching for evidence and leads to track down the parties responsible for the attacks.
